About Laredo
Meet Laredo! Laredo spent the first 5 ½ years of his life with the only family he had ever known, from the time he was just a few weeks old. When circumstances changed, Laredo suddenly found himself without the home and family he had known his entire life. Now, this handsome boy is looking for the second chance, and forever home, he deserves.Despite everything he has been through, Laredo is a sweet, smart, people loving boy who enjoys meeting new people and being part of the action. He already knows sit and paw, comes when called, walks very nicely on a leash, and is both house trained and crate trained. He’s also quite vocal and loves a good howl when he has something to say!Laredo is currently spending time with a professional trainer, where he is doing very well and giving us the opportunity to learn even more about him. He has done well with large female dogs and may also be compatible with more submissive large male dogs. He can be selective with confident male dogs, so any potential canine sibling would need to be carefully considered and appropriately introduced. His compatibility with smaller dogs is still being evaluated. One important thing we’ve learned about Laredo is that he really needs companionship. He does not do particularly well being completely alone and is happiest when he can be with his person. If his people are going to be away, Laredo needs the companionship of other compatible dogs around him. He would do best in a home where he won’t routinely be left completely by himself for long periods of time.Laredo does have a strong prey drive and cannot live with cats, chickens, or other small animals. We are also looking for a home without young children.Laredo loves being outside and having room to roam and explore. He does have a history of escaping, so secure fencing is important, and he should not be left outside unattended. Since settling into his current environment with plenty of space and secure 6-foot no-climb fencing, he has not been showing signs of trying to escape. Keeping him exercised, engaged, and included will be important in his new home.Laredo needs an experienced, committed adopter who can provide him with structure, consistency, exercise, attention, and plenty of love. He is an intelligent dog with so much potential, and with the right person willing to understand his needs, we believe he will flourish. After spending 5 ½ years with one family, we want to make sure Laredo never has to start over again. We aren’t looking for just any home for him, we’re looking for the home that will finally be his forever!
