About Vaquero
Vaquero is a male cat who presented bright, alert, and responsive (BAR) with a fractured left femoral head causing significant pain and mobility concerns. Without prompt surgical intervention, he is at risk for ongoing pain, worsening mobility, and additional complications. Vaquero will require specialized orthopedic surgery, such as a femoral head ostectomy (FHO) or possible amputation, to relieve his discomfort and improve his quality of life. This level of specialized surgical care and postoperative recovery support exceeds what we can consistently provide in the shelter environment.Despite his condition, Vaquero remains resilient and is doing his best while receiving supportive care. Vaquero needs a safe, compassionate placement where he can receive immediate veterinary evaluation, the necessary orthopedic surgery, and appropriate postoperative recovery care to restore his comfort and mobility. This pet is at risk for euthanasia due to medical concerns beyond our scope of care. If you are interested in adopting, fostering, or rescuing Vaquero, please email dasadopt@dallas.gov. When emailing, please leave a callback number.
