About Cookie

Cookie came to Revelation Gardens as a tiny kitten and, in the beginning, she was perfectly comfortable with people. She would sit in our laps and accept affection like any other social little kitten. Then something changed. After Cookie returned from her spay surgery, we began noticing a significant change in her behavior. The little kitten who had once sat comfortably in our laps became increasingly fearful of people. We don’t know why the change occurred or whether it was related to that experience, but today Cookie is a very different girl. Cookie prefers cats to humans. She’s curious and playful, but when a person approaches, her instinct is usually to dart away. Occasionally she’ll allow a brief touch, but affection needs to happen entirely on Cookie’s terms. We don’t chase her or force interaction simply because we’d like her to be more comfortable with it. Cookie is still young, and perhaps with time she’ll become more trusting again. But we’re also willing to accept the possibility that she may always be a cat who feels safer with other cats than she does with people. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a home for her. For a patient person with a quiet environment, realistic expectations and perhaps a confident feline companion, Cookie could have the opportunity to experience home life without the pressure to become a lap cat. Her person would need to find joy in the small victories and allow Cookie to decide how their relationship develops. Cookie is healthy, spayed and up to date on vaccinations. We’re not looking for someone to change Cookie. We’re looking for someone who might understand her exactly as she is—and give her the safety to decide what comes next.
