About Charlie
Charlie is, quite simply, a lover boy. At 12 years old, he’s perfected the art of being a lap cat and would happily spend as much of his day there as you’ll allow. He’s sweet as pie, loves attention and has another particularly endearing quality: young cats seem to adore him. Charlie has been a gentle, reassuring presence for many of the youngsters who have come through our doors. His own story hasn’t always been so gentle. Before coming to Revelation Gardens, Charlie experienced a frightening ordeal while being transported overseas. He was lost in transit, and when he was finally found, he was sick and covered in his own urine. His family later began experiencing problems with Charlie urinating outside the litter box and ultimately made the difficult decision to surrender him. When Charlie first arrived at Revelation Gardens, he urinated on a couch once. Rather than treating it as bad behavior, we gave him time to settle in and feel secure. And Charlie did remarkably well. He went a long period without another incident. When his person here went away on vacation, the behavior briefly returned, suggesting that stress and separation may play a role for him. After Revelation Gardens moved, Charlie once again adjusted and did well for quite some time. More recently, we’ve noticed some weight loss, and Charlie had another urinary accident. Because changes like these in a senior cat can have a medical cause, Charlie has been examined by our veterinarian. He currently appears to be in good health, but we’re monitoring him closely and blood work will be our next step if needed. We believe Charlie deserves to have his whole story understood—not reduced to a litter-box issue. He’s an extraordinarily affectionate senior boy who loves laps, loves people and has a special way with younger cats. For the right person who understands his history and is willing to provide stability, appropriate veterinary care and a little grace if an occasional accident happens, we wouldn’t rule out the possibility of Charlie having a home of his own. Charlie also finds carriers and travel particularly stressful. He can become physically distressed during transportation, so future veterinary visits and any transition to a new home would need to be approached thoughtfully and with as little stress as possible. But there’s no pressure and no deadline. Charlie is accepted exactly as he is here. If another home ever becomes part of his story, it will be because someone is ready to accept all of him, too.
