About Catelyn

Some stories stay with you long after the emergency is over. Catelyn’s will always be one of them. ❤️‍A few months ago, one of our staff received an after-hours animal control call late at night. At first, it sounded like something we unfortunately hear far too often:“A dog was dumped on the Appalachian Trail.”But the moment we saw her, we knew this was different. She was painfully thin, terrified, shut down…and VERY pregnant. We happened to have an empty cat room something extremely rare around here so we quickly converted it into a quiet whelping space. We barely had time.Within five minutes of arriving, Catelyn went into labor. She was scared and unsure of us, but one of our girls sat quietly beside her, offered her water, and simply stayed. Before long, Catelyn came over and laid beside her for comfort. In one of the most vulnerable moments of her life, she decided to trust humans again. ❤️And we stayed with her through the entire long, stressful labor.Catelyn gave birth to 13 puppies. Only seven survived. The other six were not properly developed, and despite everything, there was nothing that could be done. A lot of tears were shed that night for those tiny lives that never had a fair chance and for Catelyn, who was obviously far too young to have ever been put through this.It was also another painful reminder of why spaying and neutering is SO important.Catelyn didn’t choose to become pregnant. She didn’t choose to become emaciated. And she certainly didn’t choose to be dumped on the trail as though she were disposable.Yet despite everything humans had put her through, she chose to trust us.Since that night, Catelyn has absolutely blossomed. She has been an incredible mother to her seven surviving babies, all while becoming one of the sweetest, most affectionate girls. She loves being close to her people and has so much love to give. ❤️Now her job as Momma is finished. All of her seven puppies have been adopted and will soon be heading home. Now it’s Catelyn’s turn. She deserves to know what it feels like to be someone’s baby instead of always having babies depending on her. She deserves a soft bed, a full belly, safety, love, and a family who will never make her wonder if she’s disposable again. We are SO thankful she came to us when she did. Had she been left out there much longer or gone through that labor completely alone, this story could have ended very differently. Please consider adopting this gorgeous girl and giving her the final chapter she deserves: goes HOME. ❤️Puppies 6 months and under are typically $200 and dogs from 7 months to 6 years are typically $100.00. The adoption fee may be higher or lower than stated however, and is dependent on many factors including age, behavior, medical condition and demand. All dogs 7 years and older are free under our Saving Seniors program. We frequently run discount specials and occasionally a dog will be more than the stated fee. Most cats and kittens are $35.00, however there may be instances in which the fee is higher or lower, due to age, behavior, medical condition or demand. With felines, we always have an "Adopt one, bring another one home for free" adoption special!
