About Maverick
* Available in Shelter for Meet & Greet * Maverick was rescued with his mama and siblings from Hawthorne Auto Square when he was only five or six weeks old. He was always the cautious kitten and much more comfortable with cats than people, so it took him a little longer to figure humans out. A few months in foster care have made a huge difference. Once too scared to leave his box for days at a time, Maverick now follows his foster mom around the house like a little shadow, naps beside her during the day, slow blinks at her from across the room, and comes over looking for attention and play. He’s even become comfortable being picked up and cuddled by his foster dad. He may be shy at first, but once he feels safe, he genuinely likes being around his people. Underneath all that caution was a very sweet little cat who really wanted to be loved—he just needed time to feel safe enough to show it. Now he seeks out affection and happily soaks up pets. He is an incredibly gentle boy, even when he’s frightened. Maverick is a quiet, easygoing guy who rarely meows, but he makes up for it with a surprisingly loud purr. He loves his toys and will happily entertain himself, but he also likes to initiate play with his people. He’s curious and observant, and his funny, playful side has come out more and more as his confidence has grown. Maverick loves other cats and would especially enjoy a home with a friendly cat looking for a buddy. A feline friend isn’t required, but it would be a big plus for him. He’s looking for a loving home that can give him a little time to settle in.
