About Bean & Momo

Bean and Momo are a 1-year-old bonded sister and brother, up to date on vaccinations WHO MUST BE ADOPTED TOGETHER. Here’s what their foster volunteers say about them: How would you describe the cats' general personalities? Bean and Momo balance each other out wonderfully. Bean is quieter and more polite, while Momo is the rambunctious, adventurous, and slightly bratty brother. Both are shy and skittish with humans initially, but curious and motivated by food/treats. Bean is slightly more approachable for gentle pets if approached slowly, while Momo loves being near the action, lounging on the couch just out of reach, and playing. Do the cats enjoy being pet? They are both learning to enjoy pets as they build trust. Bean warms up and purrs (with an oddly deep purr for a tiny cat) when relaxed. Momo has recently accepted pets down his back or head/eyebrow scritches, especially when relaxed near another cat or distracted by treats, though he can still be hesitant with approaching hands. If yes, on what parts of their bodies do they like to be pet? Bean likes pets on her face, head, and back (along with occasional chin/chest scratches). Momo enjoys scritches on the back of his head, eyebrows, and down his back. Are there any parts of their bodies that they do NOT like being touched? Neither likes sudden movements or being grabbed. Bean will sometimes dart off with a full-body pet. Momo is protective of his personal space when cornered or startled and prefers light, respectful touches. Do the cats come on your lap? Both will crawl onto your lap for high-value treats (like Greenies or Churus), but they usually move away once the treats are gone. Do the cats like to be held? No. Neither cat likes being picked up or held; Bean kicks to escape after a few seconds, and Momo gets distressed. Do the cats sleep in your bed? They are generally kept in a separate room overnight due to young-cat nighttime zoomies. During the day, Bean occasionally naps in the bed if the sun is right, and Momo will venture onto the bed if he thinks everyone is asleep. Do the cats seek your attention? They seek attention primarily around routine treat times! Momo will run over and look up at you on the couch for evening snacks. Bean tag-alongs quietly with her brother and other resident cats. Do the cats like to play? Absolutely! They love playing together—chasing each other around the house, tag-teaming rolling toys, and wrestling. They both enjoy laser pointers, feather wands, fake rodents, springs, and electric toys. What are their favorite games, toys, and scratchers? Laser pointers, plastic springs, feather wands, coir and cardboard scratchers, and playing chase with each other. How vocal are the cats and what sounds do they make? Very quiet overall. Bean squeaks sadly when everyone is asleep and she wants to play. Momo will occasionally make soft whines if separated or bored. Neither meows frequently. Do the cats always use the litter box? Yes, 100% reliable! However, both are extremely vigorous diggers, so high-walled litter boxes and a good vacuum are recommended. What food, frequency, and treats do they enjoy? They eat scheduled breakfast and dinner meals wet/dry food without being picky. Greenies and Churus are their absolute favorite treats (Momo also loves cooked chicken, though he gets possessive with it!). Bean eats patiently, while Momo can be more eager. Have either of the cats shown swatting, scratching, or biting behaviors? Bean: Extremely gentle and peaceful. She has never scratched, bitten, or attacked anyone (except playful wrestling with Momo). She accepts treats very softly, occasionally taking a gentle nibble if fingers smell like treat dust. Momo: Was defensive/swatty when he first arrived, but has improved significantly with socialization training. He now swats much less (mainly if cornered or startled), usually with claws retracted or just trying to reach a treat. He has never bitten or broken skin. How do the cats react to new people? Both are fearful of new people and will hide together until they feel safe. They need a quiet environment and patient adopters who will let them settle in at their own pace. How do they get along with each other and other animals? They adore each other and are inseparable companions—playing, chasing, and napping together. They also do wonderfully with other cats! Bean runs over to rub against resident cats and cuddle in cat piles, while Momo joins in play and respects boundaries. What cute or quirky traits do they have? Bean is tiny and polite, treating other cats like giant beanbags to sleep on. Momo has a cute white dusting on his chest, is a bit more adventurous (loves investigating counter/stoves and trying to steal butter!), and constantly battles between wanting to be brave for treats and remembering he's supposed to be shy. In your opinion, what is the best thing about this pair? Why adopt them together? Watching Bean and Momo interact is pure joy. They give each other confidence, entertain one another with play, and form cozy cuddle piles. Helping them build confidence with humans is an incredibly rewarding experience! What are their main challenges and how best to manage them? Their main challenge is initial shyness and skittishness. Momo can react defensively if cornered, and Bean will retreat if approached too quickly. They thrive best with gentle, predictable routines, high-value treats, and adopters who let them come out of their shell on their own timeline.
