About Smokey

Meet Smokey! Smokey is proof that even a former street king can discover that indoor life is pretty darn awesome! Smokey was found as a stray already neutered. He had no microchip, and unfortunately, no owners could be located. After being taken in by a kind person, he quickly decided that soft beds, sunny windows, regular meals, and people weren’t such a bad deal after all!Smokey has been with his current foster family since mid-summer, and he has really settled in. He’s still a bit of an independent guy and can be somewhat aloof, but he’s becoming more comfortable every day. He may not be the cat who needs to be in your lap 24/7, but when he’s in the mood for attention, he’ll happily jump up on the couch, sit right next to you and enjoy some pets. He’s a very gentle and easygoing cat who is wonderful with the boys in his foster home, and he seems to especially enjoy the attention of their 10-year-old.Smokey also has some seriously adorable quirks. When he wants treats or attention, he often stands up on his hind legs like he’s politely placing an order. And when he is REALLY enjoying his pets, he lifts his right paw into the air like he’s giving you a little salute. He is very food motivated and will happily meow for treats—as if his foster family has never fed him before. (We promise he gets plenty of food.)Smokey is excellent with his litter box and gets along with the other cats in his foster home, although he definitely has some feline favorites. He’s also a little bossy with one of his foster cat siblings, but gets along well with the other two and LOVES the calm, cat-savvy family dog. He enjoys playing with cat toys and doing little zoomies around the house, but he is equally happy stretched out in front of a sunny window taking a good nap. He also loves a good belly rub! Smokey has been seen by the vet for some hair loss on the back of his neck. We all believe he has sensitive skin and that topical flea/tick treatments applied to his neck may irritate him. Because of this, his future home should have other pets who receive appropriate year-round flea and tick prevention to help protect Smokey. He’s not destructive, is respectful with his claws, uses his litter box perfectly, and overall is just a really easy guy to have around. He took a little time to feel comfortable, but now he has settled in beautifully.Smokey doesn’t need to be the center of attention. He just wants a safe home, a sunny window, some toys, snacks on demand, and a human who will appreciate his occasional couch cuddles—and his very official paw salute. This former street king is ready to retire to his forever home. Could that be with you?
